Johannesburg, South Africa, 22 October 2026: Datapost has released XID 5.0, the latest version of its digital signage design tool. XID lets businesses create, customise and publish content directly to their screens from one editor. Version 5.0 is now available to all XID users.
What’s new in XID 5.0
Each innovative tool in XID 5.0 streamlines your workflow, letting you complete tasks in a single editor. New features include AI-powered tools, custom brand kits, wayfinding, live co-design, 16 blend modes, over 100 editable widgets and more. Our prefabs feature allows users to save elements like logos, footers, or layouts for reuse across multiple projects.
“XID was built with this main goal: getting your content onto your screens quickly and reliably,” said Kenneth Maciver, CEO at Datapost. “We develop it alongside the people who use it. Version 5.0 gives them more ways to reach their goals, with new smart tools and an enhanced UI.”
The update adds new capabilities across six areas:
- Live data and automation: designs connect to Google Sheets, calendars, web feeds and the new Data Manager, with no-code rules and smart page scheduling.
- Interactivity: click actions, popups, forms, a wayfinding map and 15 branded games for touch screens.
- Smart objects: over 100 ready-made widgets and 17 infographic types, many linked to live data.
- Design tools: AI image and video generation, Smart Layout, a vector pen, brand colour palettes and an animation timeline.
- Collaboration: live co-design, preview without saving, XID Flow and project export and import.
- Reliability: scheduled dimming, quiet hours, player recovery, autosave backup and two-factor sign-in.
Businesses migrating existing digital signage environments can also convert existing projects into XID using the newly improved import tool.
Availability
XID 5.0 was released on 7 October 2026. Existing users can access the new features the next time they sign in, with no installation required. XID included as part of the Datapost digital signage platform, free of charge.
